What Gives With Giving?

Google “GIVE ME” and you’ll get an interesting list:
  • Give me love…
  • Give me liberty…
  • Give me one reason…
  • Give me everything…
  • Give me a break…
  • Give me Jesus…
As you can see, giving touches on a variety of areas. It may seem like an unlikely subject for discussion at NOINOPIA but on the contrary, it’s an important one. Because no matter what our financial situation may be, we always have something to give.
We always have something to give.
Here are a few considerations that we hope provide you with a renewed perspective on giving.

Why Give?

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son… (John 3:16)

It’s possibly the most well-known verse in the Bible. But look closely at the sequence: Because God loved, He gave. In giving the world His Son, God set the example for us: our motivation in giving is love. And so, this is why we give – to demonstrate love.
This is why we give – to demonstrate love.

Give What?!

Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. (Proverbs 3:9-10)

Yes, we are not only called to give to God, but to give to God FIRST. This often makes no sense for us at NOINOPIA – if I can’t pay all my bills with the little money I have, why should I give ANY of it away?
Here’s why: God’s economy doesn’t operate in the same way as the world’s. In God’s economy, the more you give, the more you get…

Give And You Shall Receive

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully… God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work…
He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way… (2 Corinthians 9:6-11)

Yes, we are blessed to be a blessing. Pastor and Author Jud Wilhite describes this cycle in a K-LOVE 1 Minute of Encouragement:
“The promise is this: when we’re generous WITH our life, God is generous IN our life.”

Giving Ways

When we think of giving, the first thing that often comes to mind is giving financially. But there are so many ways to give:
  • DONATE SOMETHING – clean out the garage or a closet and give away what you’re no longer using that others may need: clothes, furniture, toys, household items.
  • MAKE SOMETHING – bless an unexpecting someone or family with a home-made gift, home-cooked meal or sweet treat.
  • DO SOMETHING – give your time by offering a ride, visiting an elderly neighbor, helping someone move.
There are so many ways to give...
When we look at life with hearts willing to give, we see plenty of opportunities. Giving changes everything, especially for those who feel they have little to offer. It takes the focus off me and puts the needs of others before mine. So we can see in action why "it is more blessed to give than to receive." (Acts 20:35)
Because giving is fundamental at NOINOPIA, we’ve built in Community Service Nights as part of our program. Our participants tell us these are some of their favorite times. We try to get all the children involved, too. It provides a perfect example for them to follow so the cycle continues to grow and continues to bless…
NOINOPIA Community Service Nights are a favorite!
